Art therapy is a powerful psychotherapy through the use of art because of the treatment depth dealing with conscious, subconscious and unconscious level of oneself. It is an established mental health field since 1940s. Art therapy treatment has been proven to be highly effective for personal development, resolving inner conflicts and a therapeutic process. According to Cathy Malchiodi (2007):" Art therapy is essentially the marriage of two disciplines: art and psychology. Aspects of the visual arts, the creative process, human development, behavior, personality, and mental health, among others, are important to the definition and scope of art therapy." Indeed, according to John Patricia (2006) "art therapy evolved as a hybrid field. It was generally agreed that art therapy emerged from the confluence of developments from the late 1700s to the early 1900s in several fields. These fields were psychiatry, psychoanalysis, art history, projective techniques, and education." Art therapy is commonly misunderstood as traditional art class or tradtional art making. It is not about drawing or painting or making a nice picture but a process that uncover yourself with psychotherapy intervention and treatment.
